Inspired by the Duplass brothers’ “the cavalry is not coming” ethos, Nicolas and I set out to make a film with a three-member cast and crew. Nicolas wrote, directed and produced, I shot and produced, and Kev played the lead. It was our most gratifying exercise in grit, flair and experimentation, winning at New Orleans and other festivals. Producing it taught me to shrug when I didn’t know, learn on the job and carry on, bird by bird.
